the GRAND STRAND of SC

includes (north to south): Conway, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, Georgetown and Andrews

To over 12 million people from the United States and abroad who visit the area each year, the words "Myrtle Beach" and "Grand Strand" evoke images of miles of sunny beaches, a multitude of attractions, shopping galore, great food, spectacular golf, historical sights and exciting live entertainment venues. Considered one of the top vacation destinations on the East Coast, the Grand Strand stretches south from Little River to Georgetown, South Carolina.

Myrtle Beach, though the largest municipality among the Grand Strand communities, is just one of several popular destinations. North Myrtle Beach with its Barefoot Landing complex of theatres and restaurants could be considered the northern anchor. On the south end of this 60 mile beach is a string of smaller communities, each with much to offer. Murrells Inlet, well to the south, has Brookgreen Gardens with its 500+ sculptures and 2000+ species of flora all set in a beautifully landscaped wildlife park (complete with aviary). In-between communities have their own entertainments and everything is so very conveniently situated either on or just off US-17.

Then there is the golf, - over 100 great golf courses. Some, the more famous, usually require reservations but there are so many, just as great, that don't. While golf packages are the 'thing' here, you can easily put together your own - or compromise and have your motel or hotel help you put a package together.

And we've 'gotta eat'! Just about every kind of ethnic fare can be found among the 2000+ restaurants here. The prices are unusually low and, if that weren't enough, just look around for tourist racks and you'll find an assortment of coupon books with many great deals. A kind of 'eat your pie and have it too'.

But, lest we forget, this is the Atlantic Coast. The Inland waterway parallels US-17 to its west and the great Atlantic beaches to the east. With numerous marinas dotting the Inland Waterway, you can go deep sea fishing or just plain cruising (yes, you can rent about any kind of boat). Or test your skills wind surfing, go swimming or just lay out on the beach and soak up some of the sun's rays. This is the place to forget schedules and appointment books and just relax and enjoy!
