The 611 foot high,
30 foot wide Multnomah Falls drops down a cliff on the north side of
Larch Mountain in giant steps. Fed by springs, the water flow is
significant year round but more abundant in the late Winter and Spring
months when snow melts increase the amount of ground water.
Though you can view
Multnomah Falls from the highway, a short path takes you to Benson
Bridge which is between the upper and lower falls. The impact on your
eyes and ears will probably stay with you for the rest of your life!
After viewing this hydrospectacular attraction you will understand why
this is the most visited attraction in Oregon.
Nearby is the
Multnomah Falls Lodge, a historic landmark, and now functioning as a
Forest Service Information center. Rock hounds will be interested that
every type of rock found in the Columbia River Gorge is represented in
the Lodge.
In the upper
portion of the lodge is a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and
dinner. The restaurant is accessible by elevator for people with
disabilities.
