If you are a history buff, Hillsborough is a required stop. According to the Chamber of Commerce, Hillsborough has more than 100 buildings that date to the 18th and 19th Centuries. They also claim that it was during the 1788 Constitutional Convention, held here, that the demand for a
‘Bill of Rights’ was made unequivocally. No Bill of Rights, no Constitution. As the county seat of Orange County, the county
Visitors’ Center is here – at 150 East King Street. (They also have a Queen Street.)
Hillsborough Visitor Center

Hillsborough is directly accessible from I-40 and some only from I-85. The Visitors' Center is the latter.
If you are eastbound on I-40, take the I-85 lanes at exit 163 (left exit) and then take exit 164 and turn left onto S. Churton Street (NC-1009 at this point but it becomes NC-86).
If you are westbound on I-40, take exit 261 and turn right on S. Churton Street (NC-1009 at this point but it becomes NC-86).
Follow Churton into town and at King Street turn right. The Hillsborough Visitor Center is at 150 East King Street.
The Hillsborough Visitor Center is open 7 days a week. Of special interest to many visitors is their (free) self guided walking tour printed booklet.

Orange County Historical Museum

The Museum exhibits feature memorabilia from the Colonial, Antebellum, Civil War, and Industrialization eras. Also on display is the only complete set of Colonial weights and
measures in in the U.S.A.
They also have a second-floor gallery which displays works of local artists - a different artist is represented monthly.
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11a to 4p; Sundays from 1 to 4p. Closed major holidays. Admission: FREE.
