Though
high-speed auto races are no longer held on the beach, the extraordinarily
wide and soft sand of Daytona Beach still make it “the world’s most
famous beach”. (Driving on the beach is still permitted – but at a
maximum of 10 mph.) The racing has been moved to the Daytona International
Speedway.
In
addition to the races and the annual ‘Spring Breaks’ for the college
crowds, many other major events are held at Daytona Beach (see: Annual
Events). We
suggest you avoid Daytona Beach during one of these ‘events’ unless
that is the reason for coming.

The
city of Daytona Beach is geared for tourists and better facilities are
hard to find anywhere. A host of new attractions have sprouted up many of
which are oriented to automobiles and racing. Restaurants are everywhere
serving about any kind of fare and, frankly, very reasonable priced.
And
Daytona Beach (unlike so many great beach communities) is very accessible.
The excellent and conveniently located airport is serviced by Continental
and Delta plus Volusia County’s home-grown air service which can pick
you up or take you anywhere in the USA. Florida’s well-maintained
Interstates 4 and 95 radiate out from Daytona and connecting from I-75 is
easily managed via I-10. |
