Silver City Ghost Town
From Bakersfield, follow Hwy
178 East. about 27 miles
to the Bodfish/Havilah turnoff. Bear right. Go right,
pass through Hot Springs to 3829 Lake Isabella Blvd.
| 'Ghost
Towns' come and go. And, as with ghost, they sometimes reappear. Silver
City Ghost Town is one of these resurrected ghost. Through the loving care
(and a lot of investment) by the Mills, then the Corlews, an assemblage of
artifacts (including whole buildings) have been reassembled into an old
Western town complete with miners' cabins, saloon, assay office, general
store and post office. |
Self guided
tours are the norm. Silver City is open daily from 10a to 5p (close at 4p
during winter months).
Admission fee: $4 per adult, (children 6 to 12 $3 each, 5 and under are free). All proceeds are utilized for the continued restoration project.
