| The
Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, a private, not-for-profit preserve (not
a national park) is one of the most successful wildlife
sanctuaries in the world. Protecting some 100 species of mammals, 400
species of birds, 120 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 2,500
species of plants, tens of thousands of insect species. Larger animals,
e.g., the Jaguar, Ocelot, Resplendent Quetzal and Baird's Tapir, also roam
the preserve maintaining an ecological balanced research and observation
resource. |
To
avoid any possibilities of negative impact on the preserve, only 150
people are admitted at any given time. The official Visitors’ Station at
the entrance to the park disseminates information about the park and its
history and also presents a slide show which first-timers will find very
useful.
