BELIZE

It started out as Belize. Under British rule since the 17th Century, this tiny country occupying the southeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, gradually became known as British Honduras. Achieving full independence a few years ago, it is again Belize. As little known as is Belize, it is the haunt of many tourists in the know. The longest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere, several sets of Mayan ruins, a very friendly population (English is the official language), is is amazing Belize isn't much better know.
