Family Members of Hospitality and Food Industry Workers Lost on September 11th Invited to Visit Barbados.
Those lost in the September 11th tragedy came from all walks of life - businessmen and women, corporate executives, volunteers and city employees just to name a few. Unlike high-level executives, several of those lost were also members of the hospitality and food industry - cooks, dishwashers and wait staff - who worked throughout the complex in numerous corporate dining rooms and other small food establishments. Now the Barbados Tourism Authority is trying to make a difference in the lives of the families of these lost ones.
By offering them just a moment to get-away to another place, escaping the daily reminders of their loss, the Barbados Tourism Authority is hosting and inviting those families to visit the island of Barbados. |
Recently, 37 New Yorkers who lost relatives in the World Trade Center attacks were treated to a week in Barbados, courtesy of the Tourism Authority, several airlines, local hotels and other amenities. For many, it is not only their first trip to a Caribbean island, but also they're first plane trip.
Families were chosen by health professionals and caseworkers under the auspices of the Community Services Society of New York. Consisting of children of all ages accompanied by remaining members of their families, they were given the chance to enjoy the beaches, pools, caves, natural wonders and the annual Barbados Jazz Festival featuring Dionne Warwick. They were able to be transplanted to another place for a moment and enjoy the lifestyle the island has to offer.
