New
Providence and Paradise Islands
New
Providence and Paradise Island (well named!) are linked by a bridge and are the
center of Bahamian social life. Here is Nassau, the capital, and the casinos,
opulent resorts and world-class hotels and busy night clubs.
The
Atlantis
Resort Hotel on
Paradise Island offers a unique resort experience amidst the world's largest
marine habitat, second only to Mother Nature. Get up close to 50,000 sea animals
living in 11 exhibit lagoons. Discover the secrets of ancient Atlantis in The
Dig. Take a thrilling ride on one of the Mayan Temple's five water slides.
Refresh at 11 swimming areas and miles of white sand beach.
In
contrast to the Atlantis, midway between the airport and downtown Nassau is the Nassau
Marriott Resort
and Crystal Palace Casino (largest casino in the Caribbean) on Cable Beach. No
'huts' here; the guest rooms are situated in five interconnected high-rise
towers.
How
would you like to drift back to the 12th century for a brief visit? The Ocean
Club on
Paradise Island is world famous for its magnificent Versailles gardens and
12th-century Augustinian Cloister. Year-round blossoms and exquisite statuary
make for a welcome break. Then you can go back to enjoying the seemingly endless
beaches.
Here,
too, is a plethora of duty-free shopping featuring goods from all over the
world. Here, also, are attractions ranging from historical buildings (many
tourable) to unique aquariums. Sports? Almost every kind of sporting activity
can be enjoyed here.

Andros Island
As a
starter, the second-largest reef in the Northern Hemisphere off Andros Island
(the largest of the Bahamian Islands) is also the site of the oldest dive resort
on the planet. And it is no wonder for nothing can match the awesome beauty of a
coral reef when viewed from beneath the water's surface.
Though Andros Island is
the largest of the Bahamas, it is also the least-explored. If you're into
outdoors sports, especially hunting and fishing, Andros Island is the place you
want to be. This island is wild (virtually unpopulated), a stay here is like
stepping back in time.
Here you can
walk through virgin stands of pine trees frequently reaching 60 and 70 feet in
height. A fresh-water lake is home to many water fowl and hunting is permited
(in season, of course).
Here you can
dive among masses of brightly colored fish - sometimes in schools so thick you
have to push your way through them. Or go exploring in some of the many 'blue
holes' - some of which may possibly never been explored!

Eleuthera
Island
You
don't have to go to Hawaii to see pineapple plantations; just visit Eleuthera
Island. This is an island also preserving the distinct Georgian architecture
(the colonial-era villages are almost like time machines).
Everything
here is very 'family oriented'. The main road runs the entire 100+ mile length
of the island to a beautiful marina at Rock Sound. Boats for fishing are
available there and the fishing in the Bahamas is absolutely great!
As you
can imagine, there are many, many miles of beach bounding an island of
this size and they are beautiful and secluded. If you intent is to have
a quiet, relaxed holiday, Eleuthera Island is an ideal destination.
